Are you team Rafael or Team Michael?

Last week’s episode of “Jane The Virgin” found Jane and her hilarious hallucination “Bachelorette Jane” struggling to choose between her two loves: Rafael, the handsome hotelier and father to her newborn son and Michael, her former fiancé. The CW’s telenovela has successfully created a perfectly confounding love triangle with both Michael and Rafael being major contenders for Jane's heart.  Normally, it’s completely lopsided, with one person being far better than the other.  We all remember “Scandal’s” Jake-Olivia-Fitz federal fiasco, don’t we?  (Spoiler Alert: They’re both married).  Don't get me started on "Parks And Recreation's" April vs. Ann disaster.

Last week’s episode found Jane testing the waters with both Michael (Brett Dier) and Rafael and making a pretty strong case for both.

Jane (Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez) approaches everything with logic and organization, so let’s review the pros and cons for both contenders for Jane’s very organized and imaginative heart.  

Pros: Rafael (Justin Baldoni) has the abs, those lips, all that money and a good heart.  He’s also Mateo’s biological father.  Despite a few bumps (or tiny mountains) in the road, he’s making a great effort now.  He solved the stupefying issue of Mateo’s odd nursing patterns and created a palatial penthouse with all the baby essentials for his unique new family.

Cons:  All that hotness and heart come with bonkers baggage in the form of his trainwreck, meddling sister (ya know, the quack OBGYN who mistakenly inseminated Jane), his sperm-stealing ex-wife Petra, and his evil step-mother, the master-of-disguise criminal overlord, Sin Rostro, who already orchestrated the kidnapping of baby Mateo.  

Where does Michael stand?  

Pros:  He was prepared to marry Jane before she was accidentally inseminated, and eventually came around after.  In the season 2 premiere, he selflessly traded a career-making bust for Jane’s kidnapped son.  Finally, he continually swallows his pride to be present to Jane’s life even though their relationship ended.

Cons:  It was an understandable struggle for Michael to process that Jane was having another man’s baby—a move that may have pushed Jane away.  He also let her go fairly easily.  Professionally, as a detective, he’s just as entangled in Sin Rostro’s web as Rafael is, possibly even more.
