Seven Actors And One Show Shonda Rhimes Should Take To Netflix

8/17/2017

What does a visionary and uber-producer who has generated over $2 billion in profit after creating game-changing shows like Grey's Anatomy, Scandal and more do?  Any damn things she wants.  This week Shonda Rhimes, the world's greatest television producers, did just that by announcing that she is parting ways with ABC and to exclusively create new content for digital streamer, Netlfix, Variety.com reports.

The groundbreaking move from broadcast television to the streaming giant offers "unique creative freedom and instantaneous global reach," Rhimes said in a statement.

While I'm wondering how Ms. Rhimes will pack up her infinity pool of fans' tears and rollercoasters of feels, I'm also doing my happy dance!   Rhimes essentially has a blank slate at Netflix, which makes her the hottest ticket in Hollywood.  A fangirl's mind reels at the binging possibilities.

However, fantastic shows need fabulous actors, so here are some wonderful actors and one show I've love to see make a pilgrimage to Shondaland...

Rainbow's bro & sis! @DaveedDiggs @RashidaJones □□‍♀️□□❤□□ #blackish

A post shared by Tracee Ellis Ross (@traceeellisross) on Mar 16, 2017 at 8:25am PDT

Something terrible is happening: networks are announcing the dates of their *gulp* season finales of all of our favorite shows.  How could we let this happen?!  What am I going to do in that endless, sweaty showhole normal folks call summer?!

Thankfully, I've been through this before, and I know how to handle the post-TV season panic in a way that is more productive than chaining myself to that sculpture in the The CW's headquarter's lobby.  I just need to remind myself that that my Netflix and Bravo are still my entertainment lifesavers, and in mid-March, most shows are still in production.  Also, thanks to an ever-evolving television schedule, some shows are just beginning production.

Earlier this week, EW.com reported that the one and only Angie Tribeca herself was guest-starring on ABC's black-ish as Rainbow's sister.  If you thought it was too good to be true, we know now have photographic proof!  In the snap above posted by star Tracee Ellis-Ross, Rashida Jones looks AMAHZING and this BTS shot features all of the Johnson siblings thus far, including Daveed Diggs' free spirit, Johan.

Try not to catch a nasty case of FOMO from these amazing behind-the-scenes Instagrams from Black-ish, Empire, The Flash and more...

'Scandal' Spoiler: The Fish Rots From The Head (5.13) Sneak Peek

Olivia Pope is back to gladiating—and in fierce graphic prints no less!  This week’s episode of Scandal is called “The Fish Rots From The Head” probably due to the pure garbage Pope & Associates has to wade through on this current case.

The sneak peek below finds Olivia (Kerry Washington) and crew tackling a ripped-from-the-headlines case in which a night of partying for the secret service ends up with a dead escort.  You may remember when a dozen secret service agents were caught with prostitutes in 2012.
Abby asked her to take the case, which may put her on a collision course with her ex-boyfriend, also know an the President of the United States, after six months with no communication.

Do you want to see her and Fitz reunite?  Watch the clip and sound off below!

The 47th NAACP Image Awards, which aired Friday night on TVOne, answered the Oscars exclusion with an awards show that was an inclusive celebration for musicians, actors and activists of color.  Winners and nominees cheered each other on, cracked jokes while presenting and accepting their awards, and passionately and adorably lip-synched to John Legend’s performance.

It’s true that you don’t realize how much you love something until it’s gone.  With most of m’shows on winter hiatus, I find myself wondering what my favorite characters are doing, and watching old reruns just to hear their voices.  It’s a one-sided love affair, but I knew that going in.  So now is the perfect time to share my favorite TV characters in no particular order...

9 Best Television Shows Of 2015

12/31/2015

I had a lot of fun putting together my #2015BestNine Instagram pictures (Follow me!). It's a fun way to look back at the year and remind yourself of how much you accomplished and that just because a haircut looks cute on Taraji P. Henson doesn't mean it'll work for you.

While picking 2015’s Best Television Shows, I discovered that this was an exciting, diverse year for shows that obliterated the conventional ideas of drama—“UnReal’s” drama felt like TV-ception as it focused on the making of a reality dating show; BET’s “Being Mary Jane” found its niche just as the do-gooding but volatile Mary Jane tried to find her bliss; and “Jane The Virgin” offered the most unflinchingly realistic look at motherhood in TV history.  Let's break it down!

'SCANDAL' wINTER FINALE REVIEW: A-BOMB

11/21/2015

In “Scandal's" third episode, a frantic, resigned Mellie whisked around her posh closet of the residence in search of a mason jar of moonshine.  As she did so, she ranted about the spirit-crushing doldrums of being the first lady—it was all lunching and decorating and smiling and sacrificing.  And she was glad to be rid of it. Bellamy Young absolutely nailed that complicated (and hopefully Emmy-worthy) scene in which a long-scorned wife passed the baton of her marital duties to the love-blinded mistress.  It was foreshadowing of what was to come, two women on opposing trajectories eclipsing each other on newfound paths.

Just five episodes later, Olivia Pope, bereft but resolute, scrambles around the same closet seeking out the inherited moonshine to soften the pain of the decisions she just made, the delicate situation she just handled.

“Baby, It’s Cold Outside”—arguably the best episode of the season—catalogs the deaths of professional fixer Olivia Pope and the “Shut-Up-And-Smile” First Lady Mellie Grant.  It ushers in the age of Senator Grant—a Republican woman who survives a 16-hour, Wendy Davis-inspired filibuster to protect the funding for Planned Parenthood.  The brilliance of the moment is that it essentially makes use of her years as a governor's wife and a First Lady, entertaining the Washington elite in stilettos.  She lists the insane federal commissions that have guaranteed funding, which Shonda Rhimes confirmed via Twitter are real.  The most absurd: a study on gambling habits of monkeys and ‘hangry’ individuals.

Just as Mellie is about surrender, as “the elasticity of her urethra” is about to snap on the House floor, the Vice President arrives so Mellie can yield to her and take a long overdue bathroom break, thanks to Olivia.  She offers encouragement to Mellie when she is wavering, “You’re the biggest bitch I know.  Don’t tell me you can’t do this.”  Senator Grant can and does complete the “longest filibuster in modern times” to protect the rights of American women.  It's a bold statement, and it is more glorious than even I could imagine for one of my favorite characters.

'SCANDAL' SPOILER: PARIS IS BURNING (5.3) SNEAK PEEK

Last week’s episode of “Scandal” saw Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) drop an A-bomb “Iron Man” style when she stood in front of a flock of reporters and paparazzi to admit with her affair with the President with a simple and jaw-dropping, “Yes.”

In a brand new clip from this week’s episode entitled “Paris Is Burning,” the aftershocks of Olivia’s admission are spreading throughout the White House, and Abby (Darby Stanchfield) is the first casualty.  Poor Red just can’t catch a break!

Watch the hilarious sneak peek below as Abby and her stilettos rush through the White House in an attempt to stop Fitz and Mellie from going on camera as an united front.

Tune into “Scandal” this Thursday at 9/8c.
