Last week, a new and fantastic trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier just about obliterated the internet. Between Captain America’s angsty voiceover, T’Challa/Black Panther in all of his big cat glory, and Bucky Barnes’ remorseless attempt to shoot Tony Stark in the face (!!!), I’ve all but memorized every frame. The trailer draws battlelines between Team Cap and Team Iron Man. Which side am I on? The hottest one, of course!
Captain America (Chris Evans), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Co. not only embody the American spirit: bravery, boldness, and badassery, they look fantastic doing it. And I’m crushing super-hard on all these supeheroes, so I made them all my mancrushes this Monday.
Take away those scientifically chiseled muscles, fighting prowess and unwavering goodness, and Cap still has a heart of gold, unrequited love for the extraordinary Peggy Carter, and so much unwavering loyalty for his best friend-turned-brainwashed assassin that he’s willing to spend years and risk the wrath of a secret doomsday society to track him down, despite Bucky’s persistent attempts to kill him. How can you not fall head-over-shield for Steve Rogers?!
Bucky Barnes has killed probably thousands of people, but blame it on the centuries of brainwashing, Hydra experimentation, and torturous memory wiping. Before he was the Winter Soldier, he was Steve’s greatest friend and ally, and that man may still exist. The trailer finds him fighting at Captain’s side once again. If that’s only reason to fall for him, those biceps and that lethal swagger are another.
Finally, Sam Wilson does the one thing Cap can’t do: fly. Thanks to a badass flight suit and an adrenaline addiction, he can take to the sky like a man-bird hybrid. More than that, he’s loyal, as handy with a one-liner as he is with weapons, and he was the first official member of Team Cap.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier doesn’t hit theaters until May 6 but at least we have another trailer to drool over. Watch it 14,000 more times below.
