It's one thing to dress up as a ghoulish monster or your favorite TV character for Halloween, it's a whole other thing to embody them mind, body and soul.  And yet that's what Kelly Clarkson did this Halloween with her scary-good cover of Sia's "Chandelier" in a live Facebook video on Sunday.

On Sunday, Oscar-winning actress, Vogue cover model and Hollywood's most daring fashionista Lupita Nyong'o took to Instagram to share a new skill: freestyling.  The video commemorated Nyong'o surpassing over three million followers on Instagram.

While on the currently press tour for Disney's Queen of Katwe, MC Nyong'o dropped bars about how fly she is.  "Speak four languages, doing deals in Spanish/Hit 'em with the autograph and poof I vanish!" she raps while stunning in a black and white dress and shades. 

Let me preface this by saying that I try not to get too political on my blog, but it's hard not to get swept up in the pomp and circumstance and not to mention the actual history made at the DNC this week when Hillary Clinton accepted the nomination for President of the United States, becoming the first woman to ever do so.  Just a little glass ceiling shattering going on here.  Kind of a big deal.  

But I digress.  This might not be something you say every day, but I do: Thank God for Twitter...and that block button.

Throughout this dumpster fire of an election, the social media platform can be a cathartic place to vent frustrations, unload with humor and find that you’re not alone. 

It’s also cluttered with so many clever, hilarious contributors that often leave me in awe of their rapid-fire wit.  When I was sprawled on the couch watching the Democratic National Convention this week, and was finally introduced to a Hillary Clinton’s pick for Vice President, a sweet, salt-of-the-earth man named Sen. Tim Kaine, who speaks Spanish and is folksier than your dad eating apple pie in a cornfield on the Fourth Of July, I immediately flocked to Twitter to join in the brilliant and shockingly kind welcome to the political spotlight.  And they didn't disappoint, believe me.

Here are some of the brilliant and hilarious tweets about the new potential VP.  

It may seem like the country is in a horrifying tailspin after last week's sickening displays of police brutality with the killings of Alton Sterling (July 5) in Baton Rogue, Philando Castile (July 6) in Minnesota, and the sniper-style massacre of Dallas police officers at an otherwise peaceful anti-police brutality protest (July 7).  The shootings left five police officers dead, and injured seven more as well as two civilians, according to HuffingtonPost.com. 

Even worse, the heavily-armed and violent police response to otherwise peaceful demonstrations across the America, particularly in Baton Rogue where Sterling was killed, echoes Ferguson’s disastrous protests following Michael Brown's murder in 2014.

​Well-known and beloved Black Lives Matter activist DeRay McKesson was one of over 100 people arrested in Baton Rogue late Sunday night after documenting police provocation.  

BLM supporters across the country flooded the Baton Rouge Police Department with calls in effort to get McKesson and others released.  He was eventually freed on Sunday afternoon.

As we all try to process how such injustices are happening in America, Black Twitter has managed to find joy in every victory, and celebrated DeRay’s release with the #DerayHasBeenReleasedParty hashtag.  It was filled with brilliant humor, carefree joy and the ever-present wokeness.  It even caught the eye of Queen Sugar and Selma director, Ava DuVernay.

On Tuesday, we reached another significant milestone in the the infuriating, soul-crushing, “is this shit really happening in 2016?” hellscape that is the current presidential election: Hillary Rodham Clinton is now the official Democratic nominee.  

It is the first time in our nation's 240-year history a woman has been the official nominee of a major party in a presidential election.

Some are celebrating.  Others are burning pants suit effigies.  The rest are rapt with an overwhelming sense of meh.  While HRC is nowhere near the dumpster fire-levels of suckage that is Donald Trump’s platform of racism, sexism, homophobia, and general sliminess, she’s lightyears away from a dream presidential candidate, especially if you reveled in the "Yes We Can" optimism of President Obama's previous elections.  

At this point, I’d sooner vote for Francis J. Underwood.  But these are the cards we’ve been dealt, and the least crappy hand has to be played.  

So how do outraged Americans cope?  By venting on social media, of course!  

Twitter user Mad Black Thot capitalized on her democratic depression by creating the hashtag #GirlIGuessImWithHer, and Black Twitter took it from there.  The inventive hashtag quickly exploded into a hilarious and bleak catharsis on our collective political purgatory and being forced to back the less diabolical candidate.

Music icon and The Voice judge Christina Aguilera has ditched her trademark platinum blonde for a sultry red!  Always one to make an entrance, Xtina debuted her fiery locks at "Hillary Clinton: She’s With Us Fundraiser Concert" on Monday, where she performed, and on Instagram.

The fabulous new shade still capitalizes on her beloved old Hollywood aesthetic, and the result is Jessica Rabbit 1940s Pin-Up Slayage with a modern edge. 

Aguilera was taking insane risks with fashion when Lady Gaga and Nick Minaj were still in grade school, but she hasn't made a such drastic hair change since dyeing it black in 2003.  Hopefully, like Xtina, this shade is here to stay!

The first Monday is May may be ho-hum for us working-stiffs but if you’re among the celebrity elite, it is the Superbowl of fashion events.  The annual Met Gala—an event hosted by Vogue Magazine, that celebrates the opening of the fashion exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art—is held in New York City, and it boasts one of the most extreme red carpets of the season.

This year’s theme is “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age Of Technology.”  Like contestants on Project Runway, stylists bolted for the nearest metallic dresses and bedazzlers.

This Small Screen Girl, who would happily live in sweatpants if I didn’t have to go to said day job, dies for the sublime moments of wearable art and cringe-worthy moments of horrendous fails. The only edit I have for next year is that there should be actual Anna Wintour-trained fashion police to escort people off the red carpet who dare to show up in regular clothes. 

Fittingly, technology only makes the Met Gala coverage better.  Thanks to social media, fashionistas across the planet can react to the red carpet chaos in real time, and they wasted no time providing hilarious and merciless commentary on the over-the-top ensembles.

On Thursday, the nine-time Grammy winner incited a social media frenzy by sharing a black and white snap of him in the studio with The Voice judge, uber-producer and friend, Pharrell Williams along with the mysterious caption: “Currently…” The picture received a blazing 250,000 Likes in a matter of hours as fans gushed over the prospect of a fourth JT LP. 

Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez might play a kind-hearted, Type A single mother on her scrumptious telenovela, Jane The Virgin, but a new Instagram video proves of her boxing she’s slightly different from her character, Jane.  The actor, newly minted red carpet staple and recent recipient of the Young Humanitarian Award at Variety’s unite:4humanity benefit proves she’s also a badass in an Instagram video showcasing her mad boxing skills. 

“This is because I love you guys so much.  I’m actually doing this.  I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Gina squeals to the camera before displaying impressive footwork and speed as she boxes, bobs and weaves with a trainer.  Her boxing prowess would make Rocky and Adonis Creed proud.  I'm betting that Rodriguez will showcase those skills on the big screen or her television show very soon!
