The CW's long-running sci-fi show won Entertainment Weekly's Fall TV Cover Battle, and stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and the cherry 1967 Chevy Impala called Baby grace the cover of one of the biggest issues of the year.
The news broke on Tuesday, and the newly-minted cover model, Padalecki took to his Instagram to thank fans who voted Supernatural to victory. "12 years in the making :). Thanks to everybody who voted! This cover belongs, not just to Jensen Ackles and me, but to the entire #SPNFamily," he wrote.
Misha Collins, who has played the embattled angel, Castiel, for seven seasons, admits that he wasn't surprised that the little show that could won yet another fan-voted contest. "We seem to win things we have no business winning. It's a very special fandom," he said in the behind-the-scenes video posted on EW.com
To say the honor is years overdue and much deserved would be a monstrous understatement. Supernatural AKA the longest-running genre show on American television, has aired 241 episodes thus far. Stars Padalecki and Ackles have carried the bulk of the terrifying, hilarious and dramatic burden on their very talented and sculpted shoulders by appearing in every single one of them. This is a feat that other veteran shows with larger casts, like Grey's Anatomy and Bones, cannot claim.
Hopefully it won't take 12 more seasons for Supernatural to get another splashy cover or a few shiny trophies.
The Fall TV Preview, which boasts scoops on 137 new and returning television shows, will be mailed to subscribers this week and will be exclusively available at Barnes & Noble stores starting September 9.
Supernatural's 12th season begins on October 13 on The CW.
