Two distinctly important things happened during my first viewing of Marvel’s record-breaking blockbuster, Captain America: Civil War. First, Civil War—part Jason Bourne thriller, part superhero movie finery—didn’t just live up to the hype, it annihilated it. Second, I may have gone in a shield-carrying member of Team Cap, but I left purring for Black Panther.

This Small Screen Girl has massive expectations for the upcoming blockbuster, Captain America: Civil War. Like The Winter Soldier, Civil War’s timing feels oddly perfect now that the country trapped in the ‘this isn’t funny anymore’ shenanigans of the current presidential election. And it's almost poetic that a superhero that represents truth, justice and the American way will have to battle former friends for the greater good.
In Civil War, the divide arises when a governmental oversight committee is proposes to keep superheroes in check. Tony Stark is ironically a huge champion for it, and Steve is not. The Avenges begin to secede to their respective camps. While Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) boasts a kickass suit and bizarrely complicated facial hair, I can’t think of one reason to side with Team Iron Man. Sorry not sorry. The best thing about the Super Bowl is that there is something for everyone. If you don’t care for the sports ball game than there’s the half-time show. If Bruno Mars or Coldplay isn’t your thing, then there are the glorious commercials or more importantly, the new movie trailers! Teaser spots for Jason Bourne, Captain America: Civil War and more aired during the big game...
If you heard a window-rattling screech last night, it was just me fangirling to the new “Captain America: Civil War” trailer that debuted during “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” The teaser for the follow-up to the stellar “Captain America: Winter Solder” is more spectacular than even I could have predicted!
In the trailer, Steve (Chris Evans) finally tracks down Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) who has regained some memories, but reality looms in the form of international agencies that want the Winter Soldier—a rogue Hydra experiment used to commit murders— dead. Meanwhile, mysterious entities associated with the Avengers want to reign in Captain America and other Avengers. “You’ve operated with unlimited power and no supervision. That’s something the world can no longer tolerate.” Um, gulp. Battle lines are drawn, and everyone takes sides. Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson) surprisingly stands with an ever-arrogant Tony Stark, Iron Patriot (Don Cheadle) and Black Panther (Marvel newcomer Chadwick Boseman). Leaving Steve with the Winter Soldier and Falcon (Anthony Mackie), the Scarlet Witch, and Hawkeye. At some point, Steve gets in a fight with a helicopter and a building, and Bucky goes for Iron Man's power core! If I’m grateful for anything going into Thanksgiving weekend, it’s definitely for this action-packed, explosive trailer! Make use of the pause button to find gasp-worthy shockers and discuss below! “Captain America: Civil War” hits theaters on May 6, 2016. |
