Spoiler Alert: 'Grey's Anatomy' 12.09 Promo: Meredith is Brutally Attacked

​Remember when Meredith had finally recovered from Derek’s death, and Goddess of Shondaland, Shonda Rhimes, promised that season 12 of “Grey’s Anatomy” shift back to his lighter, rom-com-inspired roots?  Well, she lied.  

The new promo (below) for the Feb. 11 return of Grey’s Anatomy—which was directed by the legendary Denzel Washington—finds Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) as the victim of a brutal attack from a patient while newly appointed Official Person, Alex (Justin Chambers) runs to her side.  

Despite Meredith’s intensely emotional clashes with sister-in-law Amelia, she will be hit the hardest by the “vicious and weird” tragedy, Amelia's doppleganger Caterina Scorsone dished to EW.com, “Amelia always holds herself extremely responsible for the misfortunate of others. In this case especially, she feels somehow responsible, even though she’s really not. She often takes it all very personally when someone she’s close to is hurt. When we come back, Amelia is at a very, very low point.”

And we all know who to blame.
