Comic-Con AKA Blerd Christmas is long over but Small Screen Girl is still lavishly unwrapping the spoilery, gasp-worthy, "Is That Captain America Fighting In WAKANDA with a Drake-esque beard?!?" presents the studios have bestowed on us.
And while it was far too easy to be dazzled by the super-sized, superhero treats unveiled by Marvel and DC, I was equally enthralled by all the goodness television had to offer (Admittedly, it was mostly for the returning shows, because the new fall crop of sci-fil television seems pretty stale...but that's another blog). Here is some spoilery deliciousness from The Flash, Outlander and Star Trek: Discovery.
Last season, the members of Team Flash spent so much time trying to save the life of the beloved Iris West, they were shell-shocked to lose Barry (Grant Gustin) to the Speed Force after defeating the Big Bad.
Season 4 of The CW's The Flash finds a fractured Team Flash still functional and Iris West (Candice Patton) putting on a brave front as its leader even though she's not sleeping on the bed she shared with her vanished fiance. And Iris's grief have left her with a stronger armor, which she'll need to face sword-wielding monsters. Thankfully, there's more rumbling beneath the beautiful surface. Patton tells TVGuide.com: "She's forced to deal with that anger and resentment and abandonment by kind of focusing on protecting Central City...We're seeing a very different Iris." So the no-fuss shorter 'do is just a start, huh? But Barry's not the only one who's missing. Tom Felton's Julian will no longer be see an extremely posh thorn in Barry's side. EW.com reports that Felton not only won't be a series regular, he also hasn't been locked in for an episode yet. Minus 10 points for Slytherin! Speaking of evil, in the trailer above, Caitlin Snow or possibly a doppleganger magically appears as if she didn't try to kill the majority of Team Flash a few months prior. Of course, Barry will eventually be freed or extracted from the Speed Force, but will he be the same? The Scarlet Speedster's doppleganger tells TVLine.com that Barry will return thoroughly "scrambled." Cisco better be able to build an app for that. Season 4 of The Flash premieres in October. Accio Autumn!
It seems like eons have passed since CBS announced the television re-boot of the Star Trek series led by Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead) in a series that takes place a decade before the 1960s tv show.
Trekkers fans' innumerable patience was finally rewarded by the lovely and thoughtful Star Trek: Discovery panel helmed by stars, Martin-Green, Jason Isaacs, Anthony Rapp (Rent), Doug Jones and more. Per TVLine.com, Martin-Green's titular First Officer Michael Burnham has interesting ties to Vulcan in that she attended the Vulcan Science Academy and was essentially raised by Frain Sarek, also known as Spock's father (Come on, you know she was going to be tied to the core characters somehow). Before you start swearing in Klingon, the producers, who are painstakingly dedicated to canon, assure that they will explain why Spock's pseudo half-sister was never mentioned by the pointy-eared legend in the original series. What's more? Like a true maverick Star Trek Captain, Isaacs broke CBS's rules by announcing this about this character: “I’m not allowed to say that he’s probably more f-–ked up than any of them." Set your phasers to stun, amirite? Star Trek: Discovery debuts on CBS and the CBS All Access on September 24. After 18 tortorous months, the Droughtlander will mercifully end when Outlander returns on September 10! The panel for Starz's sexy period drama, starring the unacceptably Emmy nomination-less Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, previewed the heartbreaking third season. It will explore the two decades that Jamie and Claire spent apart in dual journeys. Claire presumes Jamie died in the Battle of Culloden a century earlier, and she attempts to move on with Frank and her daughter. Claire may have left Jamie to fight for his people, but her marriage becomes a battlefield too when things go from awkward to violent, per TVLine.com
Claire and Jamie will reunite in the famed print-shop scene from Diana Gabaldon's beloved novels of which the show is based. The actors dedicated themselves to ensure that the scene lived up to the meteoric hype. And if there is swooning involved, it's not on Claire's part. Per Heughan, "You go through grief and acceptance ultimately of losing someone that they love – and that would almost make a man faint." Watch the breathtaking trailer above!
